The Rocket 88 was a car built by Oldsmobile in the 1950's. It was a performance sensation that introduced middle America to the smooth V-8, short stroke, overhead valve engine that set the standard for the North American auto industry for the next 30 years. And it became a popular car to hot rod.

Because success in Detroit never goes unchallenged for long, the Rocket 88s soon had showroom competition and a horsepower race was on. By 1955, most every U.S. nameplate offered light, efficient V-8s. Two of the best remain performance legends to this day.

Conductors: All eight of Rocket 88’s conductors are solid. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the single greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat harsh, dirty and confused sound. Solid conductors are the most important ingredients enabling Rocket 88’s very clear sound. Whether a conductor is solid or stranded, skin effect is a prime distortion mechanism in speaker cables. Rocket 88 very simply keeps this effect out of the audio range by using conductor sizes that are below the threshold for audible distortion.

During this time Rocket 88 ... released a 6 track EP, an LP and numerous one off tracks on compilation LP’s and made a TV appearance on the ITV telethon. Much of the band’s material was now original.
