Es wird oft die Inschrift auf dem Grabstein Robin Hoods als Beweis angeführt, dass er tatsächlich lebte. Zwischenzeitliche Untersuchungen der inschriftlichen Erwähnung des Sterbedatums von ihm, der 24.Dezember, haben ergeben, dass die verwendete Kalenderbezeichnung erst ca. 300 Jahre später, im 16.Jahrhundert, in Gebrauch war. Damit aber scheidet das Grab, damit verbunden die Inschrift, als Beweis für Robin Hoods historisches Wirken aus.
