Roberto Gonzalez (born in 1976 in Mexico City) was a Mexican Champ Car driver from Monterrey who competed briefly in the 2003 season and for all of 2004. In 2003 he made his debut in the race at St.Petersburg in Florida for Dale Coyne Racing failing to complete the race. His other appearance in 2003 was at home in Mexico City where he subtituted for veteran Roberto Moreno scoring his 1st Champcar points in 10th spot.

Roberto Gonzalez brings a wide range of professional experience to the Advantage team. A 20-year veteran of the United States Army, he ultimately rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring. While in the Army, Roberto first became involved in federal policy matters while serving as the Military Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.

Roberto Gonzalez (#21 Nextel Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) returns to the site of his first career top-10 finish as the series hits Mexico City. Gonzalez, who will end the year third in the 2004 rookie standings, competed at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez with Herdez Competition last season and improved eight spots during the race to finish in the 10th spot. The rookie has been one of the most reliable drivers all year, and is just eight laps behind Haberfeld for the series lead in number of laps completed.

On March 26, 1999, Gonzalez Nieves was appointed archbishop of San Juan by Pope John Paul II. He was installed as archbishop on May 8 in a ceremony that was attended by many of his friends from Corpus Christi, New York and Boston. Other people who attended included the then mayor of San Juan and future Governor of Puerto Rico Sila Calderon, former Governor Carlos Romero Barcelo, as well as other Puerto Rican political figures.

Gonzalez Echevarria was born in Cuba and in his youth played semi-professional baseball. He is the author of "The Pride of Havana," winner of the Dave Moore Award for the Best Baseball Book of 2002. The Spanish translation is titled "La gloria de Cuba: historia del beisbol en la isla" (2004).
