Robert Reed: Brady Bunch
built 657 days ago
Reed found The Brady Bunch mildly offensive to a serious actor such as himself. He had many arguments with the show's creator, Sherwood Schwartz, regarding the "lame" scripts. Often he would leave the set in a huff and end up in a bar near the Paramount lot, downing Scotch.

In 1969, Reed was cast as quintessential family man Mike Brady in the enduring sitcom The Brady Bunch. With a syrupy, albeit charming view of suburban family life The Brady Bunch (1969-74) became a cultural icon of the 1970s. During its five-year run, the popularity of the series swelled to a phenomenal level, becoming increasingly well known through re-runs in syndication.

To his credit, Reed managed to make this interesting indeed. The terraformers are a mixed bunch--the narrator, Ranier, has a bizarre disease which allows him to feel the pain of others; Bedford is a member of a religion that believes humans have a God-given right to populate the universe; Effie is Bedford's wife, somewhat suppressed by him; Pachel is a bureaucrat who really didn't want to come at all; and Lumiere is a man who was born on Old Earth and has lived far too long.
