At his best, Kendrick, a 6-foot-3 slugger with bullet serves, bullies opponents, knocking them off balance with his service game and then knocking them out with volleys. The Fresno, Calif., native didn't get to the net much on Sunday afternoon, the way it had to be for Reynolds to win.

Kendrick kicked off 2008 by playing in the Australian Open, where he lost in the first round to fellow American Amer Delic, then ranked 136th in the world, by a score of 6-4 7-5 6-2. Although Kendrick won 76% of points where he got his first serve in, he only won 36% of points where he did not. He was broken five times.
Kendrick is not ready to change his gameplan yet and continues to belt the ball at every opportunity, quite often into the net or outside the lines. At 30-40 he is in trouble again but the American finds two big serves and a forehand winner. He's off the mark.
