Robert Kendrick: Rafal Nadal
built 256 days ago
Robert Kendrick earned international attention when he came within two points of shocking second-seeded Rafal Nadal at Wimbledon. But Kendrick's greatest exposure may have become in Washington, D.C. when his good friend James Blake pulled down his pants.

In 2007, Kendrick was able to play in all four Grand Slam tournaments. In January at the Australian Open he drew Rafael Nadal in the first round, ensuring a rematch of their five-set contest at Wimbledon 2006. However, Nadal dispatched Kendrick in straight sets, 7-66 6-3 6-2, taking advantage of his opponent's six double faults and low percentage of second serve points won (38%). Kendrick subsequently lost in the first round of several tournaments before reaching the third round at the Miami Masters, where he was defeated in straight sets by Andy Murray. At the French Open Kendrick again fell in the first round, losing in four sets to 134th-ranked Juan Pablo Brzezicki of Argentina -- again thanks to six double faults and a low percentage of second serve points won (this time, 46%).

Kendrick ... picked up the first Grand Slam win of his career at Wimbledon, defeating Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in straight sets. He then nearly upset Rafael Nadal in the second round, taking a two-sets-to-love lead over the No. 2 seed and eventual finalist before falling, 6-7 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5, 6-4.

In his opening match, 2007 Delray finalist Blake plays Robert Kendrick, the Naples player ranked 104th who came within two points of knocking off No. 2 Rafael Nadal before falling in five sets at Wimbledon in 2006. Blake prevailed in straight sets over Kendrick in last year's Delray tourney, though they split two other matches in the challengers and futures circuit in 2001.

A little-known American qualifier named Robert Kendrick was two points from a major upset of Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon before he ended up losing in five sets. Lisa Raymond, a better- known American with a famously shaky nerve, was two points from an even bigger upset of defending champion Venus Williams and ended up losing in three.

A patchy performance then, but at times it seems Kendrick gave Murray the same problems he gave Nadal at Wimbledon. Murray was a break down in the third set with the match poised at one set all, but then goes on to win 12 of the next sixteen games to wrap the match up 6-2 1-6 6-3 6-3 .
