Kendrick got to the second round, playing fellow countrymen in both of his matches. He defeated Kevin Kim 6-4 7-5 in the first round, but lost to the eighth seed Vincent Spadea 6-4 6-1 in his second round match.

In the players' lounge after the match, Kendrick said he was happy to have outserved the 6-foot-9 Isner, something that isn't easily done. When told Isner had actually recorded 22 aces to his 21, Kendrick smiled and said he would still take the win.

Perhaps the biggest struggle for Fleishman on the court against Kendrick was mental. He wanted so badly to look past the match and into the third round –something he would not let happen.
