Robert Goulet: Richard Burton
built 268 days ago
Goulet is best known for his role in Lerner and Loewe's Camelot which opened in Toronto to rave reviews, then ran in Boston and opened in Broadway shortly after. A virtual unknown, Goulet was cast with Julie Andrews and Richard Burton and his stardom was solidified as the show received excellent reviews from Broadway critics. Most notably, Robert's performance of "If Ever I Would Leave You" brought audiences to their feet.

Goulet started out in Canadian television and stage roles during the 1950s. His big break came when the musical team of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe chose him to play Lancelot in "Camelot," which ... starred Richard Burton and Julie Andrews.

When Burton and Andrews left the musical at the end of the first year, Goulet stayed on for a second season and became the show's strongest attraction. Though he never had another Broadway hit to equal Camelot, and his film career proved spasmodic, Goulet remained a potent draw in nightclubs and on television, and he made over 20 best-selling albums.
