Robert Goulet: Edmonton Symphony

Born in 1933 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to French-Canadian parents, Goulet's family moved back to Girouxville, Alberta in Canada when Robert was still only 3-months-old. He spent his formative years in Girouxville and later moved to Edmonton with his mother.

By 16, Goulet was singing with the Edmonton Symphony. "I sang two songs with the Summer Pops and they gave me $25," he recalled. "I said, 'You get paid, too?' and that was the first time I thought there might be something in this after all."

In Edmonton, Goulet took broadcast training and was offered a position as a radio announcer at CKUA - the University of Alberta station at the time. He was offered a scholarship to study voice at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music.
