Robert Byrd (D-WV) voted against America by saying 'YES' to flag burning. He is a chicken sucking veteran hater who said in a speech recently that he likes to buy the cheap flags in quantity at Dollar Store so he can keep the fireplace going on the weekends at Byrd Ranch and Trout Club.

Byrd voted for the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and wholeheartedly supported his mentor President Johnson during the Vietnam War. "I was the last one that ran out of Vietnam," he remembered years later. "I supported President Johnson to the end." By contrast, Byrd did not support most of President Reagan's military initiatives; he voted against fighting Communist insurgents in Central America, and against the Strategic Defense Initiative for a missile defense system. His distaste for Republican-led military action continued during the administration of President George H.W. Bush (1989-1993), when, in 1990, he voted against authorizing the use of force against Iraq in what would become known as the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Byrd has personal security protection because, as Senate president pro tempore, he is in line for the presidency after the vice president and House speaker. For the most part... the title is purely ceremonial and Byrd generally settles for small talk - complimenting a man's tie or a woman's jacket - as he moves painstakingly to and from his Capitol office for votes.
