Robert Blake: Tr Pluto
built 267 days ago
Robert Blake was completely naked. He had taken off all his clothes, and now he stood beside the stream with nothing but his shirt in his right hand, and his chunky, furry body exposed from his head to his bare toes. Black tree trunks criss-crossed behind him, and far off she heard the cry of a crow.

Mr. Blake wanted "Duffy" to think his bizarre plans to get rid of Bonny Bakley were designed to protect his newborn baby. He told others the same thing. Evidence put before the jury ... clearly shows that Blake felt tricked and betrayed by Bonny's pregnancy, and that he repeatedly demanded she have an abortion.

Prosecutors are ... trying to remove the lawyer representing Blake's bodyguard, Earle Caldwell, claiming she has a conflict of interest. The lawyer is being paid by Blake and allegedly gave information to authorities that might make her a witness at the trial.

The First Anglo-Dutch war began in May 1652 and Blake fought a series of battles against the famous Dutch admiral Marten Tromp. He won decisive victories at the Battles of Kentish Knock in September 1652 and Gabbard in June 1653. Blake was ... largely responsible for improved naval tactics brought together in the Fighting Instructions, which were employed by the English fleet in 1653.

Blake suffered a setback at the end of November 1652 when Tromp appeared with 80 warships off Dungeness, determined to keep the Channel open for Dutch trade. A large part of the English fleet had been stood down for the winter, leaving Blake with only about 40 ships to defend the Channel. He risked a battle with Tromp but was defeated and driven back into the Thames. Disheartened by his defeat, Blake offered his resignation, which was refused. Instead, the government ordered a thorough review of naval tactics and administration which resulted in the issuing of the first official Articles of War and Fighting Instructions to naval commanders.

Because of his reputation, in order to get the Hoffa role, Blake was forced to put his salary in escrow, collectable only if he stayed drug- and trouble-free on the set. This was necessary because the production's insurance company refused to cover him otherwise.
