Blake has been held in jail without bail and without a trial date since last April. In a hearing last December Nash expressed concern and frustration over the case's delays, noting the actor's advanced age and his constitutional right to a speedy trial.

Blake, who has said little about the case, had long been the focus of the police investigation. He was interviewed early in the investigation as a witness to the crime, and police twice searched his home.

Now the plot thickens--the missing bullets(3) that were shown neatly removed from a box at Blake's house are reloads. The (3) bullets used to commit the crime are newly manufactured--and according to the ballistics report have nothing in common with the bullets at Blake's house. This could well be a case study for not planting evidence. It may come back to bite the LAPD.

The case thrust Blake back into the limelight after years of semi-retirement. A former child star, he had his greatest success in the 1970s TV series Baretta, in which he played a tough-talking cop.
