By 1998 Robert had fully recovered and re-established himself as one of Australia’s leading golfers, finishing the year tied fourth in the 1998 Holden Australian Open. At the end of the year Robert attended the gruelling six round Qualifying Tournament to secure his US PGA Tour card for 1999.

Allenby was born in Melbourne. He turned professional in 1992 and was soon successful, topping the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit in his first season and again in 1994. He continues to play some events on his home tour and has won 12 events on it, including one as an amateur. He ... began to play on the European Tour and it was his principal tour until 1998. He won four tournaments on it, including three in 1996, when he finished third on the Order of Merit. He has featured in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Player Notes: Allenby's father was a club professional in Leeds, England, before emigrating to Australia. . . Was a superb amateur in Australia, winning the 1990 and 91 Riversdale International Cup, 1990 Victoria Amateur Championship, 1990 Malaysian Amateur Championship and 1991 Victoria Open. Still as an amateur in 1991 almost won the Australian Open, only to have Wayne Riley make closing birdies at the last two holes from 30 and 40 feet to nip Allenby by one. . .His parents emigrated to Australia from Leeds, England . . .Placed third in 1996 Loch Lomond Invitational and in walking to his car twisted an ankle. . . While recuperating in Spain the next week suffered a fractured sternum and facial injuries in a car accident. At that time he was third on the European Order of Merit, but was forced to end his season.
