Robert Allenby: Australias
built 606 days ago
Robert Allenby still leads the 2007 Australian Masters after the second round 68... the big mover of the day was Badds. Aaron Baddeley shot a second round 66 to be only one shot off the lead at eight under. Round of the day belonged to little known Englishman Dave Horsey who shot a seven under round of 65.
ROBERT Allenby has one hand on the famous Stonehaven Cup, the prize for the winner of the Australian Open. Alas it is a pain-ravaged hand, and the national championship remains wide open going into today's final round at Moonah Links.

Allenby met Lyle in Australia in 1999, when the 17-year-old Lyle was lying in a bed at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital undergoing chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia. Allenby had heard there was a young fan of his who wanted to meet him and someday become a professional golfer, but in truth Lyle didn’t know if he would make it to his 18th birthday.
Last year was especially difficult as Allenby dealt with chronic inflammation of his hands. The malady still bothers him, and he said it has gone undiagnosed. In fact, one of his hands bothered him so much in the fall that he nearly withdrew from the Australian Open before the final round, despite leading.

Tony Bouffler commented that “Robert is not only a great golfer but ... has terrific marketing appeal as evidenced by the positive press he received during the recent Australian Open in Sydney. Robert is also a great supporter of Challenge Cancer – a Melbourne based charity assisting children and their families deal with the effects of cancer – where he has helped raise over seven million dollars in the last ten years.”
