In the first game, Ginepri broke Blake's serve. Then Blake returned the favor. Then Ginepri did the same. Service breaks came in four of the first five games, and Ginepri continued the trend throughout the match while Blake never found his rhythm.

This match was completely different than the one Blake and Ginepri played last Saturday at Delray Beach. Ginepri frustrated Blake with punishing groundstrokes and rolled to the easy victory. Ginepri couldn't conjure up the same combination that he used to beat fellow American James Blake a night earlier. Ginepri started well, winning first set tiebreaker. But Stepanek turned things around and held serve on a crucial early game in the second set to mount his comeback.

Before Friday's victory, Ginepri had lost his past eight matches to players in the top 10. But it's obvious from the way he systematically disposed of Blake that he's trying to recapture the magic he experienced during the summer of 2005. It was a landmark time for Ginepri. He beat six top-10 players in the final six months of the year and saw his world ranking climb from 103 to 15 after advancing to the U.S. Open semifinals.
Ginepri started fast and never slowed down against Blake. He broke serve to open the match and then took control of the opening set when Blake hit a backhand wide to lose his serve and fall behind 4-1. Ginepri closed out the opening set by holding at love, with three service winners.
