Rob Thomas performing Born on a military base in West Germany on February 14, 1972, Robert Kelly “Rob” Thomas spent much of his youth shuttling between his grandmother in South Carolina and his mom in Florida. After dropping out of both high school and his difficult home life, the 17-year-old drifted around the Southeast, hitchhiking and crashing where he could.

Rob joined the MRJapanese staff in October of 2005 after 3 years with the world's leading computer systems company, Dell Computers. At Dell, Rob led the Nashville area in sales with service and support, coming in at number 8 for his segment in the entire company. This won him many seats at Dell's C.O.E. (Circle of Excellence) each quarter. Previously, Rob was employed at Overnite Transportation Company, an LTL freight carrier primarily based in the eastern half of the US. At Overnite, Rob was involved in extensive daily operations at their 264 door South Eastern hub in Gaffney, SC.

Among his many honors, in 2001 Rob was inducted into the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. Thomas – who grew up in such South Carolina cities as Lake City, Turbeville, and Columbia – became the youngest-ever member of the Hall of Fame. The award placed him in the company of such South Carolinian legends as James Brown, Minnie Pearl, and Dizzy Gillespie.
