Roald Dahl: Training
built 255 days ago
In the interim, Dahl distinguished himself as an ‘intellectual Alfred Hitchcock’ whose morbid plot twists thrice won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America (1954, 1959, 1980). These macabre tales for magazines from Harper's Bazaar to Playboy were later collected in Kiss, Kiss (1969), Switch Bitch (1974), and Tales of the Unexpected (1979), which prompted a television series.

Dahl saw his first action over Chalcis, where Junkers Ju-88s were bombing shipping. With just his lone Hurricane against the six bombers, he managed to shoot one down. He writes about all these incidents in his autobiography Going Solo. During the Greek Campaign, he scored five confirmed kills in total.

Throughout his childhood and adolescent years, Dahl spent his summer holidays in his parents' native Norway, mostly enjoying the Fjords. His childhood is the subject of his autobiographical work, Boy: Tales of Childhood.
Dahl saw his first aerial combat on 15 April, while flying alone over the city of Chalcis. He attacked six Junkers Ju-88s that were bombing ships. Dahl managed to shoot one down. On 16 April in another air battle, he shot down another Ju-88.
