Roald Dahl Plass illuminated at night Roald Dahl Plass first appears in "Boom Town", an episode of Doctor Who. In the show's universe, a "spatio-temporal" rift runs through Cardiff. The plaza later appears in Doctor Who's spinoff series Torchwood. The fictional Torchwood Institute has one of its headquarters, Torchwood Three, based under the square, in order to monitor alien activity through the rift. The base of the fountain can be seen passing through the building, and one of the paving tiles in the square is a decoy which hides an "invisible lift" leading down to the base.[6]
Although Roald Dahl enjoyed a great deal of success in his life, he ... endured an unusual number of tragedies involving those closest to him. Now a part of Cardiff Bay is named after him – Roald Dahl Plass, formerly the Oval Basin, which stands at the entrance of the golden domed Millennium Centre. The Plass is an easily recognisable symbol of the newly regenerated Bay area of the capital, and with its 70ft tall stainless steel water tower, has been featured in TV sci-fi series Torchwood and Dr Who. Roald Dahl Plass is a key public space, hosting open-air music, food festivals and other events.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents moved from its familiar Sunday-night slot on CBS to a new Tuesday-night berth for rival network NBC to launch its sixth season with this amusingly ironic tale from the pen of frequent series contributor Roald Dahl. Audrey Meadows adroitly suppresses her familiar "Alice Kramden" characterization in the role of Mrs. Bixby, the pampered -- and faithless -- wife of a prosperous doctor (Les Tremayne). When Mrs. Bixby's latest paramour, a colonel (Stephen Chase), decides to break off their relationship, he gives her a costly mink coat as a parting gift. Not wanting to have her husband find out how she really got the coat, Mrs. Bixby works out an elaborate subterfuge involving a "found" pawn ticket. But it turns out that Dr. Bixby is not entirely above a bit of subterfuge himself! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
