Road Rash

Most of the original Road Rash team has disappeared from the face of the Earth (probably not deceased, just public Internet information), unless they have been working on the new version for the last eight years in secrecy. Does this indicate the end of an era?

As with most of the Road Rash games, there isn't much of a plot. You're a rookie biker who has to climb, kick, and smash your way up the ranks of your gang (either the DeSades, or the Kaffe Boys). Races and challenges are thrown at you, eventually ending with an attempt to free you buddy Spaz from the slammer.
The Road Rash series continues with an all new chapter of intense motorcycle combat and racing action. In Road Rash: Jail Break it's up to you to bust the toughest rasher of all time, Spaz, out of jail! To accomplish this, you'll have to join a motorcycle gang and move up through the ranks by succeeding at a variety of challenges and winning races.

Everyone who has played any of the Road Rash games knows that what sets it apart from all other motorcycle games is the ability to pull out a chain and wrap it around an opponents neck. Nothing like old-fashioned sportsmanship, is there? Unfortunately, Road Rash 3D seems to have forgotten to make the fighting important. There really is no need to hit your opponents when you can just drive right by them instead. No one ever matches speeds with you so you can hit them properly.
<!-- google_ad_section_start --> [I]n 1998, Road Rash 3D was released for the Sony Playstation console. This version had some interesting new dynamics including a large interconnected highway system like that found in the recent Test Drive Unlimited. The world was free for your conquering and one of the best aspects of this game was that you could explore a good part of the world. More videos were added and great CG. Also, the graphics were given a major upgrade and finally looked decent again on the surface. The videos and intros made this version in particular feel very tapped into the biker culture, more-so than its predecessors.

One good thing going for Road Rash 3D is the innovative way they made the tracks. All of the tracks are on one huge road map. At any time, you can leave the set racetrack, and proceed to drive along the road, out in the middle of nowhere. The only problem with this is that you can never leave the roadways. If you go offroad, you end up hitting an invisible wall that won't allow you more then ten feet off the track. Was it too difficult to make a real wall, or fence, or hedge, or . . .?
