Road Rash: Games

In addition to excerpts from the electronic music heard in the background of the video game, the soundtrack to Road Rash 3D contains a selection of previously unreleased tracks by a host of alterna-pop, gangsta-rap and ska-punk artists. All of the songs were written specifically for this soundtrack, if not the game itself, and all are intense, hard-hitting rockers, which can grow a little tiring, but fits the mood of the game perfectly. None of the songs really stand out, but fans of the game who can't get enough of the music they hear in the background will want to pick this up.

Road Rash is the name of a motorcycle-racing video game series by Electronic Arts, in which the player participates in violent illegal street races. The game was originally written for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, but was ported to several other systems. Six versions of the game were released from 1991 to 1999, and a 2004 licensed port for the Game Boy Advance was released. The game's title is based on the slang term for the severe friction burns that can occur in a motorcycling fall where skin comes into contact with the ground at high speed.

Road Rash 3 was a great title to end the series on the Genesis. It's got the same exhilarating gameplay with more features, new locations, unique graphics, and all the violence you've come to expect from the Road Rash series. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it all about fun. It's up for debate which is the best in the series but undeniable that this game is one of the best 16-bit racing games. If you're a fan of Road Rash, racing games in general, or hilarious mindless violence, you're doing yourself a huge disservice by not having this title in your collection.

Road Rash offered a new type of gaming dynamic. It's true there were many racers before it including motorcycle racers, but this one stood in a league of its own. You began with a basic crotch rocket that was rather tame. In a field of fifteen bikers, you started in dead last, and had to push and beat your way to the front of the pack, all while evading their counter-attacks and traffic. Your opponents had names and seemed to develop personalities from their primitive AI. There was Biff, Lester, and of course Gunther.

Road Rash is a no-holds-barred motorcycle racing game. The object is to place in the top three on each track to advance to the next level. There are five different tracks (each in a different setting) and five levels. As your level increases, the track lengths ... increase and the other racers become faster and more vicious. After completing each race, you are awarded cash which can be used to buy better better bikes.
