Two Carnival Cruise Lines ships sailing to and from New Orleans had to make some schedule shifts earlier this week after a collision between two cargo ships closed the Mississippi River to river traffic. The Carnival Conquest returned from a weeklong cruise on Monday, disembarking guests in Gulfport, Miss., rather than in New Orleans. Carnival bussed guests to New Orleans for their flights home. In addition, Carnival Conquest was preparing to sail Monday from Gulfport instead of New Orleans on a six-day rather than a seven-day voyage, and was bussing passengers to the ship. To compensate passengers for a one-day pro-rated refund of the cruise fare, Carnival was offering a $50 per person credit to the guest's Sail & Sign charge account, and a 50 percent discount on a future three- to seven-day Carnival cruise departing prior to Dec. 15, 2005, excluding holiday cruises. The Carnival Holiday, meanwhile, was in Mobile on Monday instead of New Orleans, but the Holiday was ... expected to set sail Monday night on a five-day cruise from Mobile with no change in schedule length and thus no adjustment in the cruise fare.
