Rivendell is a complete radio broadcast automation solution, with facilities for the acquisition, management, scheduling and playout of audio content. It has all of the features one would expect in a modern, fully-fledged radio automation system, including support for both PCM and MPEG audio encoding, full voicetracking and log customization as well as support for a wide variety of third party software and hardware. As a robust, functionally complete digital audio system for broadcast radio applications, Rivendell uses industry standard components like the GNU/Linux Operating System, the AudioScience HPI Driver Architecture and the MySQL Database Engine. Just outside, adjoining Rivendell's main pavilion and pool courtyard, is the heart of this villa: the gourmet kitchen and alfresco covered dining and lounging area. A dining table, easy chairs and ceiling fans make this area everyone's favorite spot for gathering and relaxing. The second two-story guest pavilion on the other side of the pool houses two equal-sized, air-conditioned queen bedroom/bath suites.

Rivendell was founded in Second Age 1697 when a force sent by Gil-galad from Lindon and led by Elrond rescued the refugees of Eregion from Sauron's army and was driven into the hills of Rhudaur. Sauron's forces subsequently laid siege to the refuge for three years until a relief army sent by Gil-galad attacked the besieging force in conjunction with the defenders and annihilated it. Rivendell was next attacked in the fourteenth century of the Third Age when the Armies of the Witch-king attacked the refuge. After some years they were driven off when reinforcements were sent from Lothlórien.
