Sans a line of leggy chorines, vet dancer-actor-chanteuse Rita Moreno greeted a celeb-packed aud at the Cafe Carlyle with "Broadway, My Street," the John Kander-Fred Ebb nod to the Great White Way. The classy chanteuse, who proudly admits to being 75, is serving up a dandy recall of great showbiz moments in a program called "Little Tributes."

Rita Moreno won an Emmy for her performance on the show. This was a significant achievement considering this was only The Muppet Show's fifth episode. Three years later, Rita would co-host the special, "The Muppets Go Hollywood" and once again find herself trying to keep Animal under control!
In addition to doting on her grandchildren, Moreno and her husband have been busy for the last two years with another "baby"-a new home, the first one they have ever had built from scratch. "This is our dream house," she says.
9 a.m. Moreno starts her morning listening to Italian ope... Moreno is having trouble figuring out when to stand and when to sit down after Callas lectures Sophie. She has been sitting down for a while on a hard wooden chair when the script calls for her to shout, "I asked for a cushion!," potentially causing audiences to wonder why she waited so long.

Rita walks into a bar patronized by a bunch of pigs. A jazzy Latin rift begins and Rita notices Piggy in the corner with a gentleman friend (a full-sized Whatnot). Rita hits on him and when rejected, she picks a fight with him. They punch, bit, kick, smash chairs until Rita gets kicked through the wall. The bully collapses.
"I was so flattered," says Moreno, who spent her early career playing stereotypical sultry Latin sirens and the rest of it trying to fight that image. "There was no typecasting of any kind" in Oz. Still, she hesitated. "I knew the show would be shot in very harsh light," she says. "I thought, 'Well, you know, I am getting older anyway, maybe it's time to face up to that.' "
