Ringworm: Cats
built 641 days ago
Ringworm mainly spreads by touching an affected person or animals like cats and dogs. Stay a little bit alert when you are atthe gym, swimming pools, buses etc. Anybody can have a ringworm and it is not necessary that you will be able to see it.
Ringworm is only mildly contagious, so children undergoing treatment may continue to attend school or daycare. In addition to infected people, you can get ringworm from infected cats and dogs. So examine your pets if someone in your family develops ringworm.
Ringworm on cat Ringworm is more common in younger cats (under 12 months of age). This may be due to the fact that their immune systems haven't matured fully. Immunocompromised (such as those with FIV) are ... more vulnerable to ringworm. Longhaired cats are also more likely to have ringworm than shorthaired cats, as are cats under stress.
In cats, almost all cases of Ringworm are caused by Microsporum canis. In dogs the majority of cases are caused by Microsporum canis. Which of these 3 main dermatophytes causes the Ringworm in dogs depends on geographic location.

Ringworm can be transmitted to humans (particularly children) and it is important to take appropriate steps to minimize exposure to the fungus while the cat is being treated. If anyone in the household develop skin lesions, early medical attention should be sought.
