1. The Moment of Silence
   The Moment of Silence is an adventure title set in the not-too-distant future (2044). The world is much like ours: people still wear clothes that wouldn't look out of place in modern-day New York City, parks are still oases of greenery amongst the concrete canyons, people still meet strangers and flirt with them in internet chat rooms, and homeless guys smelling of improperly disposed-of body fluids still rant and scream at passers-by about UFOs and the general merits of tin-foil hats.
2. The Moment of Silence -- Schools
   The state legislature in Illinois approved a measure yesterday that requires all public schools in the state to begin the day with a moment of silence, overriding Governor Rod Blagojevich's veto of the measure. Students are supposed to use the time for whatever religious observance they'd like, or to just sit there quietly. While teachers and students in the state have had the option of taking a moment for the past five years, now it's mandated. Blagojevich says it blurs the line of separation between church and state, and wanted to continue with the voluntary measure. "I believe this is the right balance between the principles echoed in our constitution, and our deeply held desire to practice our faith," he wrote in August. "As a parent, I am working with my wife to raise our children to respect prayer and to pray because they want to pray -- not because they are required to."
3. The Moment of Silence -- Game
   The fictitious story of "The Moment of Silence" is composed of well-known pieces from movies, TV and literature, which is no point of criticism. The unhinged hero with his alcohol problem is not exactly new, the alien freaks could originate from X-Files and people who know Orwell's "1984" will be suspicious of Mr. Huntington (Mr. Charrington) the antiques dealer. It's important that all this well-known puzzle parts are put together with original characters and structures to a new and coherent plot, which is excellently done in this game. This produces a recognizing smile on all, who know the reference material. But even those who can't do anything with the lively distributed mosaic stones or scarce allusions, will surly be captivated by the story.
4. The Moment of Silence -- Peter Wright
   The Moment of Silence review Game Over Online - http://www.game-over.com The Moment of Silence, from developer House of Tales, is a point-and-click DVD adventure about a global conspiracy. You play Peter Wright, an ad executive, and one day your neighbor is arrested for no apparent reason. As a favor to his wife and child, you agree to look into the matter, but the police claim no knowledge of the event, and the more you search, the stranger the people are who you meet. Some think the arrest / kidnapping is the work of an alien conspiracy while others decide that it must be the government doing its best to act as Big Brother. But what’s really going on? That’s what you’ll have to figure out as you play the game.
5. Do the Right Thing -- Radio
   Howard announced this morning, in a press conference that included Viacom/Infinity head Mel Karmazin, that he had signed a contract to do another 5 years of radio. Congratulations to Howard and the gang!
6. Right to Counsel (Sixth Amendment)
   Issue: Whether the D's 6th am. right to counsel was violated (where he was identified by a witness without the presence of counsel before he was formally charged with the crime). no
7. Do the Right Thing -- Miscellaneous
   The Globe column ... noted that the top recipient of cash from the insurance industry, which includes health insurers, is another Democrat, Connecticut's Christopher Dodd, at $605,950. Romney and Republican Rudolph Giuliani are second and third, with Clinton and Obama fourth and fifth.
8. Do the Right Thing -- Spike Lee
   For the soundtrack of his film Do the Right Thing, producer Spike Lee had his father Bill Lee write and arrange the music and utilized a septet of top jazz musicians plus an occasional string orchestra. Branford Marsalis (on tenor and soprano) is the leader of the jazz group which ... includes trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Marlon Jordan, altoist Donald Harrison, either Kenny Barron or James Williams on piano, bassist Robert Hurst and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts. In the future Blanchard (based partly due to his work on this film) would become Spike Lee's musical director. Some of the 15 themes are more interesting than others while a few are little more than incidental music. Mostly recommended to Branford Marsalis completists. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
9. Civil Rights Movement -- United States
   In this Civil Rights movement lesson plan from the Alabama Department of Archives & History students read Martin Luther King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" and other documents relating to King's incarceration in a Birmingham jail in April, 1963. Students are then asked to write a press release to be sent to each newspaper, radio station and television station in Alabama which will explain what happened in Birmingham. High School level resource.
10. Civil Rights Movement -- Solid South
    [One] major factor that helps explain the rise of the Civil Rights movement is the mechanization of agriculture in the South beginning in the 1930s. With the introduction of heavy machinery to plant and harvest their crops, Southern farmers were increasingly laying off the Black families who had worked on their farms for generations. As a result, from the 1930s on there was a Black exodus from the rural agricultural South to the urban, industrial South. This movement of Blacks into Southern cities in the 1940s and 1950s helped jump-start the lagging Southern attempts to industrialize like the North and the West. Realizing that they now had to attract Northern and global financial investors to invest in their plants and industries, Southern industrialists and business leaders began to move to end Jim Crow and racial violence; they hoped that by ending Jim Crow, they could convince Northern investors that the South was now a safe place to invest their money in; it was no longer a region dominated by racial conflict and social strife that everyone believed it was.
