Born in Limerick, Ireland, Richard Harris excelled so well in rugby, it's said he is still remembered in Limerick City for his rugby tackling ability today. Harris studied classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and made his stage debut in The Quare Fellow in 1957.

Richard St. John Harris (October 1, 1930 to October 25, 2002) was an Irish actor, singer and songwriter. He was featured on stage and in many films, and was perhaps best known for the film role of King Arthur in "Camelot" and for the portrayal of Albus Dumbledore in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", his last film. He ... played a British aristocrat and prisoner in "A Man Called Horse".

Born Richard St. John Harris in Limerick on October 1, 1930, Harris left Crescent College to work in his family's flourmill. A bout with tuberculosis caused him to rethink career choices and he headed to London to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
