Richard Gere: Aids Awareness
built 357 days ago
Richard Gere is a peace activist like Mahatma Gandhi. Richard Gere traveled to India last week to throw his fame behind AIDS Awareness and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA. Talk about preaching to the converted. In India, which has over a billion people, the Hindu people idolize the cows as sacred beings. It is illegal to kill or injure a cow. The cow is the Divine Symbol of Mother Earth giving freely milk, cheese, butter, dung for fertilizer and dung smoke a powerful anti pollutant and never asking for anything in return.
The actor Richard Gere ... is one of America's most committed AIDS activists. His focus now is on the epidemic in India. As President Bush travels there this week, Gere is in his camp.

Co-incidentally, Gere's next picture starred Nathalie Baye, who'd played Foster's part in the original. This was And The Band Played On, a controversial cable film concerning the discovery of and early fight against AIDS. Many stars made cameo appearances, Gere appearing as a choreographer, but he stood out, receiving an Emmy nomination. Next came something of a pet project,Mr Jones, which reunited Gere with Mike Figgis. Here he played a manic depressive who engages in a torrid affair with his psychiatrist, played by Lena Olin.

Ok...um first of all, his name is Richard GERE, NOT GREER!! Second of all, AIDS was first recognized in the 1980's, not 70's, among some gay men in the United States of America and it raised a number of questions regarding its origination. There are no scientific facts that indicate that the disease originated in the U.S. and scientists believe that the Human Immunodeficiency Virus developed from Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, which is a disease that affects Chimpanzees. There are many theories that explain how the virus crossed species, but it is clear that it originated in African monkeys, so unless you have some racist beliefs against African Chimpanzees, then I suggest you drop the topic you know little about...This is just for your information so you don't sound so stupid writing incorrect information on a public board.
Gere ... campaigns for ecological causes and AIDS awareness. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Healing the Divide, an organization that supports global initiatives to promote peace, justice and understanding,[7] and he also actively supports Survival International, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights and lands of tribal peoples throughout the world.[2] He helped to establish the AIDS Care Home, a residential facility in India for women and children with AIDS, and also supports campaigns for AIDS awareness and education that country. In 1999 he created the Gere Foundation India Trust to support a variety of humanitarian programs in India.[8]
Gere swept the popular Bollywood actress into his arms and kissed her several times during an AIDS-awareness event last weekend. Angry crowds burned effigies of Gere for going too far in a country where such public displays of affection are largely taboo.
