Richard Ayoade: Julian Barratt
built 640 days ago
Julian and Noel have finished writing Series 3 and have enlisted the help of Richard Ayoade (long term collaborator and one time Dixon Bainbridge) as a script editor. The next few weeks should see them embark on pre-production of the next incarnation of The Mighty Boosh. With a scheduled July start and Paul King back in the directors hammock, filming will take place in a studio somewhere outside London. The series should hit the screens in the Autumn.
Ayoade was part of the original cast of Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding's The Mighty Boosh: he was selected to play the role of dangerous villain Dixon Bainbridge. However, by this time he was under contract by Channel 4 and was only able to act in the pilot before leaving the Boosh. The part was taken by fellow Darkplace actor Matt Berry. He has since returned, in one episode of the second series to play the (presumably) one-off part of the belligerent shaman Saboo, where he improvises the line 'an erotic adventurer of the most deranged kind' when describing Noel Fielding's nephew, who was ... in the scene.

AD/BC A Rock Opera It could have been televisual brilliance: Little Britain's Matt Lucas, The IT Crowd's Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade, and Mighty Booshers Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt in a 28-minute 'rock opera' vaguely based on the Nativity and set in 1972. Sadly, brilliant it's not.
