Rich Beem
built 606 days ago
Reigning PGA champ Rich Beem is a long-hitting, aggressive player with a swing more reminiscent of the players of the'70s and'80s, than the current, video taught golfers of the modern era. The first thing you'll notice about Beem is his extremely long, upright backswing, which is a bit like Tom Watson's in his heyday. You'll ... notice that he drives his legs excessively toward the target like Jack Nicklaus. While the overall look of the swing is powerful yet a bit sloppy, Beem knows how to make it work. Who knows? It might work for you, too.

Rich Beem was a relative unknown when he stepped on to the first tee box at the PGA Championship in 2002. Four magical days later and a Major title to his credit, the anonymity was gone. All of it was quite overwhelming for a guy who once gave up the game and became a cell phone salesman. Today, after years of struggling on the Tour since that victory, Beem is finally back. He talks about his struggles, how "life happened," and why he’s finally having fun again with the game he loves.

Beem, 35, shot 9-under-par 63 during the third round Saturday before rain halted play on the Magnolia course. Beem was at 197, 19 under par, and one stroke ahead of Mark Calcavecchia (65) and Mark Wilson (63). Tim Clark, Carl Petterrson, Tom Pernice and Geoff Ogilvy were ... a stroke back, but were unable to complete the round.

Beem mostly remembered how Duplantis looked after his daughter, Sierra, who turned 12 this month. His marriage ended quickly, and at one point Duplantis was a single parent trying to keep his job as a caddie. He worked with Furyk for four years until he was fired for showing up late one time too many.
