She was nicknamed the "Queen of Technicolor", as her fair complexion and red hair photographed exceptionally well in Technicolor.

Rhonda Fleming wurde als Tochter des New Yorker Fotomodels Effie Graham geboren. Anfang der 1940er–Jahre wurde sie zunächst in kleineren Rollen besetzt. 1945 gelang ihr der Durchbruch mit Alfred Hitchcocks Ich kämpfe um dich, wo sie an der Seite von Ingrid Bergman und Gregory Peck spielte. Nach dieser Rolle wurde sie in zahlreichen Filmen der Film Noir–Reihe besetzt. Bis Ende der 1950er–Jahre blieb sie dem Kino erhalten. In den 1960er–Jahren spielte sie fast ausschließlich in Fernsehfilmen.

One of her best known films features her singing prominently, opposite co-star Bing Crosby: "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1949). As a leading lady she also co-starred with Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Dick Powell, Mark Stevens, John Payne, Ricardo Montalban, and Joseph Cotten. She received top-billing in such films as "The Golden Hawk" (1952) and "Those Redheads from Seattle" (1954). She made over fifty films, mostly during the 1940's and 1950's.
