During the Haskell Pow Wow in Lawrence, Kan., Rez Dog shirts were selling faster than DeHaas could put them on the table, with crowds constantly surrounding the booth. Apparently his hunch was right when it came to his logo and his designer shirts. Young and old alike were smiling and laughing about the shirts as they bought them.

Rez, the latest game from Sega's United Game Artists, has a lot in common with the developer's last game, Space Channel 5. Like Space Channel, Rez is very easy to pick up and play, it oozes with a unique sense of audiovisual style, and it's a game that you can finish in under an hour. How much enjoyment you'll get out of this far-out shooter depends on your priorities.

Rez projects minimalism effectively. Everything looks simple, with wire frame landscapes, architecture and enemies that resemble anything from spacecraft to aquatic mammals. Streams of color explode when enemies are fired upon. At rapid speeds, flying through the levels can be breathtaking with so many effects taking place at once. The situation can get extreme, with a full compliment of missiles and other strange projectiles headed towards the player. Its at these times that Rez[S] framerate dips just a little.

Rez in Second Life means to create or to make an object appear. Rezzing an object/prim can be done by dragging it from a resident's inventory or by creating a new one via the edit window. The term "rezzing" can ... be used for waiting for a texture or object to load, such as "Everything is still rezzing." or "Your shirt is still rezzing for me."

Rez was developed by United Game Artists, one of Sega's development teams. It was released for the Sega Dreamcast in Japan and Europe, and later for the Playstation 2 in Japan and the United States. Unfortunately, production in the US was extremely limited.
