Rescue workers are, more than other professionals, confronted with dramatic events and human suffering. The aim of this book is to provide guidelines for rescue workers and their leaders to cope with emotionally demanding work. Examples of rescue professionals are doctors, nurses, and first aid workers, as well as personnel in the military, the police, fire brigades and ambulance services.

Rescue groups exist for most types of pet—for example, rabbit rescue or bird rescue, but are most common for dogs and cats. For animals with many breed types, many rescue groups specialize in specific breeds or groups of breeds. For example, for dogs, there might be local Labrador Retriever rescue groups, hunting dog rescue groups, large-dog rescue groups, as well as general dog rescue groups.

At 0100 hours on Saturday, February 02, 2008 Rescue Squad 742B was dispatched with E725, A725 and M704 to Norbeck Rd. and Twin Valley Ct. for a report of a car rolled over. Company 25 arrived on scene to find a single upright vehicle with the occupant partial ejected out of the passenger’s side window and held the dispatched assignment. The car had apparently rolled over repeatedly before coming to rest in the middle of the road. RS742B arrived on scene, provided lights and helped package the patient.
