built 230 days ago
The Alameda County Republican Party event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chiodo Art Development, 1933 Peralta St. in Oakland. Admission costs $50, or $100 for a VIP meet-and-greet and photo with Tom Campbell. County GOP Chairman and former Oakland City Councilman Dick Spees will take part, as will newly elected state GOP vice chairman Tom Del Beccaro of Lafayette. The event ... includes a viewing of sculptor Mario Chiodo’s studio “Remember Them: Champions for Humanity,” a monument celebrating the community’s international diversity and creative entrepreneurial spirit; when completed, these 25 featured leaders who changed the world will be the largest bronze sculptures west of the Mississippi.

The official symbol of the Republican Party is the elephant. Although the elephant had occasionally been associated with the party earlier, a cartoon by Thomas Nast, published in Harper's Weekly on November 7, 1874, is considered the first important use of the symbol [1]. In the early 20th century, the traditional symbol of the Republican Party in Midwestern states such as Indiana and Ohio was the eagle, as opposed to the Democratic rooster. This symbol still appears on Indiana ballots.

This letter, sent by a Republican Party caucus committee in Titusville, Pennsylvania, requested that Cyrus K. Holliday speak at a convention in August. They described a local political shift, as Democrats agreed to support the Republican presidential nominee. Cyrus already had left Topeka on July 7th, intending to bring his wife, Mary, and daughter, Lillie, to Kansas Territory. Responding to invitations such as this, Cyrus spoke about 130 times on behalf of the Republican presidential candidate, John Charles Fremont, who supported admittance of Kansas as a free state. Though speaking mostly in Pennsylvania, Cyrus saw little of his family until after the November election, which Fremont lost.
The Republican Party is one of the two major political parties in the United States. It was established in 1854 by a conglomerate of politicians and non-politicians who opposed the expansion of slavery and held a Hamiltonian vision for modernizing the nation. The party has occasionally been dubbed "America's natural governing party", since 18 of the 27 US Presidents since 1861 have been Republicans. The party is not to be confused with the Democratic-Republican party of Thomas Jefferson or the National Republican Party of Henry Clay.

The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States of America, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. In spite of its nickname, it is the younger of the two major U.S. political parties; nonetheless, it is the second oldest active political party in the United States.
Photograph:U.S. Republican Party pin. On Jan. 4, 1995, the Republican party took control of both the United States House of Representatives and the Senate for the first time in more than 40 years. At the time, many Republicans saw the victory as a “Republican revolution” and the beginning of Republican domination of Congress.
