Representative Dennis Kucinich

Of the more than 500 members of Congress and the numerous 2008 Presidential candidates, Representative Dennis Kucinich is the only vegan. Can you imagine it? A vegan President of the United States. Kucinich can. Sure he’s one of the darker horses running in an increasingly crowded field, and he only got about four percent of the vote in the 2004 race. Even so, the 60-year-old congressman from Ohio says his record as a public servant uniquely qualifies him for the Oval Office this time around.

The main advocate of the Department of Peace Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio is running for the presidency again. The interesting anecdote from this story: his wife was not aware of his intentions when he told New York Times reporter Mark Liebovich that he planned to run.

Since winning election to Congress in 1996, US Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) has proposed such radical ideas as a Department of Peace, universal health care, and action on climate change. His speech, “Prayer for America,” got one standing ovation after another at an Americans for Democratic Action event in Los Angeles in February. Now it is circulating on the Internet, drawing thousands of responses. YES! editor Sarah Ruth van Gelder asked him about his fall from political grace, and his startling comeback.

Sources close to the office of Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) confirm that the progressive Democratic congressman and Democratic presidential aspirant intends to introduce a bill of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, April 25. The move will mark the second time that an impeachment bill has been submitted against a member of the Bush administration. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) filed a bill of impeachment against President Bush in December of last year, just as the 109th Congress was about to end, and as Rep. McKenney was about to leave office (she was defeated in last November’s election).

Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich has been almost completely ignored by the corporate media. Most voters probably don't know that he exists, but he's still in the race, and he intends to follow it for as long as he possibly can. Perhaps he's one of those dirty idealists. Let's examine what makes him a "crazy vegan," "fringe," "liberal elitist" candidate:

CNN: "With the Democratic National Convention set to begin next week, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich on Thursday will announce his support for Sen. John Kerry as the party's presidential candidate, representatives for both Democrats said. "We are very pleased he made the decision," Kerry spokeswoman Allison Dobson said. Another Democratic official praised Kucinich's decision as well as the timing of his announcement, which will occur in Detroit, Michigan."Not only does this clear the Democratic field with the convention days away, but it gives Kerry another bridge to organized labor in Ohio," the official said. Kucinich is scheduled to speak at the convention Wednesday.
