Remicade: Treatments
built 627 days ago
Remicade is a new and powerful drug that seems promising for many Crohn's sufferers. As of February 2001, over 150,000 individuals have received Remicade treatment. There have been many success stories. Of course, it's not possible to predict in advance how you will respond to treatment with Remicade or how long the benefit will last. Side effects are usually minor, but serious side effects can occur. Long term effects will not be understood for several decades.

Remicade is a biologic drug given by infusion -- the only biologic approved for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. It targets the immune system and blocks an inflammatory chemical called tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Besides rheumatoid arthritis, it's ... used to treat Crohn's disease (another inflammatory bowel disease), plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, a rheumatic disease.

If you or a loved one has been injured by Remicade you or they may have a legal claim against the manufacturers of Remicade. You may be able to obtain funds for further medical treatment from the injuries, compensation for pain, and your action will help prevent Centocor from marketing these dangerous drugs to unsuspecting consumers.
Remicade belongs to the class of medications called biological response modifiers. It is used to treat severe Crohn's disease as well as moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis that has not responded to treatment with methotrexate. It works by "turning down" parts of the immune system that are believed to be involved in these conditions.

Remicade was previously approved for the treatment of Crohn's disease in August 1998. Remicade works to reduce inflammation in Crohn's and in rheumatoid arthritis by binding to and neutralizing TNF-alpha, a cytokine involved in the inflammatory process.

Remicade is ... approved for several other diseases, including psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease. Previous Psoriasis Cure Now podcasts have covered topics including strategies for treating children with psoriasis, and the future of psoriasis treatments. The next one, to be released near the end of October, will be an introduction to psoriatic arthritis. They are all available free from the Psoriasis Cure Now website and via iTunes.
