built 627 days ago
October 2001 - A warning was issued informing health care providers that patients who have congestive heart failure should not use Remicade. This Remicade warning was the result of medical studies in which seven patients who had congestive heart failure died after taking Remicade. There were no deaths in the group of patients with congestive heart failure who took the placebo.

Treatment discontinuation should be considered in patients with stable, concomitant congestive heart failure, especially those who have not demonstrated a significant clinical response to Remicade. If continuation is decided upon, cardiac status should be closely monitored.

It has been shown that Remicade may worsen existing heart failure. Therefore, Remicade should not be taken by patients with moderate to severe congestive heart failure, and the dose should be limited for those with any class of congestive heart failure.
