It is too far from the region's population base. This again concerns the big picture. Taking an event away from the region's population center can mean failure for a new event. Especially if a new volunteer needs help and other experienced volunteers known to the RA are not nearby to pitch in.

The new Brazil headquarters will cover the South Cone region of South America, which includes Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Reinaldo Assis, formerly general manager of Hypercom de Brasil, has been promoted to managing director of the South Cone region.

The new Web site offers access to detailed and continuously updated statistics on nine key components -- called "indicators" -- of the region's life: Arts, Demographics, Economy, Education, Environment, Government, Health, Safety and Transportation. A tenth indicator, focused on sustainability issues, will be added soon.

Region is a geographical term that is used in various ways among the different branches of geography. In general, a region is a medium-scale area of Earth or water, smaller than the whole areas of interest (which could be, for example, the world, a nation, a river basin, mountain range, and so on), and larger than a specific site or location. A region can be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States").

The region is enormously varied in terms of topography, climate, vegetation and wildlife. Te Urewera National Park and Raukumara, Kaweka and Ruahine Conservation parks are here along with two marine reserves and strong examples of New Zealands natural and historic heritage.
