Reggaeton has always been banging. Just in the last 3 years its become main stream within the latin districts of the US. Due to Tego Calderon (he is in the lean back video. the one on the couch.) There are other dope MC's such as Don Omar, Eddie Dee,Ivy Queen, Yankee, Zion & Lennox and the list goes on, that are ripping the reggaeton scene. N.O.R.E is just making reggaeton main stream to the non latin peeps.

From DJs to record labels, Reggaeton now enjoys top of the chart success and has since circa 2003. The CD Barrio Fino by Daddy Yankee, is the first Reggaeton album to break Billboard’s Top 30 with the hit, “Gasolina,” and is destined to be a million seller. The song, "Oye Mi Canto" by New York rapper N.O.R.E. with Daddy Yankee ... helped to introduce Raggaeton to a wider audience when it hit the Top 20.

Reggaeton started coming into its own a decade ago, powered by a generation of genre-hopping rappers including the Panamaian pioneer El General. Now the genre has a few established stars: the drawling veteran Tego Calderón (newly signed to Atlantic Records), the charismatic lothario Don Omar, the brash hit maker Daddy Yankee. And right now, the reggaeton act with the most momentum may be the duo Wisin y Yandel. The two appear on "Burn It Up," a great reggaeton track from the new R. Kelly album, "Tp.3 Reloaded" (Jive). And this duo has a huge reggaeton hit with "Rakata," a thumping club track that may turn out to be one of this summer's most memorable hits. Haven't heard it yet?

Reggaeton's rise in the US is set to continue, on May 27, WCAA (105.9 FM), updated its playlists. The New York based station, owned by Latin media giant Univision, had played what it called Latino Mix, drawing from a variety of Latino genres. Just in time for Memorial Day, the station was reborn as La Kalle ("the Street"), giving New York its first radio station totally devoted to the Latino hip-hop offshoot known as reggaeton. And that was just the start for just last week, Univision has converted three more stations to reggaeton. Univision's three new reggaeton stations serve Fresno, California, Dallas and the San Francisco-San Jose area.

Reggaeton expanded and became known when other producers followed the steps of DJ Playero, like DJ Nelson and DJ Eric. In the early 90s albums like DJ Playero's Playero 37 (in which Daddy Yankee became known) and The Noise: Underground, The Noise 5 and The Noise 6 were very popular in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Singers like Don Chezina, O.G. Black & Master Joe, Baby Rasta & Gringo, and Lito Y Polaco among others were very popular.

Reggaeton and hip-hop are often remixed together, and reggaeton songs and live concerts may feature hip-hop artists such as Lil Jon, 50 Cent, and Eminem. Hip-hop songs such as Usher's Yeah and Snoop Dogg's Drop It Like It's Hot have been remixed by replacing the original beat with a reggaeton beat. In other remixes, reggaeton DJs may rap out an English song in Spanish.
