However, rumors claim she is more concerned about the temporary halt of the production than her eye condition. An insider told the press, “Reese kept apologizing to everyone from producers to the lighting guys. "Reese was especially concerned about Vince's reaction to her causing the work stoppage. He's not only her leading man but one of the film's producers. “He was more concerned about her eye than losing a day's shoot."

Actress Reese Witherspoon won the Academy Award as best actress for playing gospel singer June Carter Cash in the 2005 movie Walk the Line. Witherspoon had already made a name for herself with roles in a series of unsettling dramas including Fear (1996, with Mark Wahlberg), Freeway (1996), Cruel Intentions (1999, with Ryan Phillippe), and American Psycho (2000). As a comic actress, she won top reviews as a scheming high school politician in the 2000 comedy Election (with Matthew Broderick) and the next year had a hit with Legally Blonde, starring as a ditzy Harvard law student. Walk the Line, the movie that won her the Oscar, was a biography of June Carter Cash's husband Johnny Cash (played by Joaquin Phoenix). Witherspoon's other films include Sweet Home Alabama (2002, featuring Dakota Fanning), The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) and Just Like Heaven (2005, with Mark Ruffalo).

Her father was a lieutenant colonel in the US Army reserves and her mother was a nurse and college professor from Harriman, Tennessee. She claims to be the direct descendant of John Witherspoon who was a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence, the sixth president of Princeton University, and Presbyterian minister. Reese Witherspoon was raised in the Episcopalian religion. Her father worked for the US military in Wiesbaden, Germany, were she lived there for four years as a child. After returning to U.S, army brat Witherspoon spent most of her childhood in Nashville, Tennessee.
