With half their original members, Reel Big Fish hasreplaced their full, brassy horn sound with a thin, processed one. They alsotraded in their smooth Ska sound for a sort of pop punk with horns, though in"Where Have You Been," the horns don't play and there is no evidence ofSka. The song might as well be branded Emo, since the lyrics complain about abreak up.

Reel Big Fish took the stage. They performed amazingly; even with their reputation for great live shows, they set a new high mark. Even though they just released their new album, they mostly stuck to their old songs, which was amazing (their new album, though good, doesn't live up to their previous ones.) She's Got a Girlfriend Now, Beer, Where Have You Been, Sell Out, and Take On Me all made an appearance, and they even played Party Down, their new music video.

Following two years of long and loose tours with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Cherry Poppin' Daddies and MxPx, among others, Reel Big Fish headed into the studio with longtime friend and producer John Avila to hash out another Mojo Records release. A harder rocking album than its predecessor, 1996's Turn the Radio Off, Why Do They Rock So Hard? meshes ska with reggae ("Song #3"), while serving up straight up rock & roll ("She's Famous Now") and acoustic folk ("Big Star").

Reel Big Fish - Monkeys for Nothing and the Chimps For Free Reel Big Fish is out of the clutches of its insane ex, er, major-label contract, and is living it up irresponsibly and churning out an album without having to try too hard. You know how it goes. It's sort of fun to rebound. Now, though, it's time to quit dragging up long-buried songs and focus on the future.
