Turner Classic Movies is altering its schedule on Thursday, July 20, to run uncut presentations of six Red Buttons features. The tribute includes his comedic roles in the African adventure Hatari!, the sweet A Ticklish Affair, and the WWII yarn Imitation General. All times Eastern, check your local listings.

Mr. Buttons appeared in more than 30 movies, including "Hatari!" "The Longest Day," "Harlow," "Stagecoach" (1966 remake), "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" "The Poseidon Adventure," "18 Again!" and "It Could Happen to You."

Buttons’ Academy Award led to other films, both dramas and comedies. They included “Imitation General,” “The Big Circus,” “Hatari!” “The Longest Day,” “Up From the Beach,” “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” “The Poseidon Adventure,” “Gable and Lombard” and “Pete’s Dragon.”

After that Buttons became a prolific character actor who could always be counted upon to bring an extra dinemsion of believablity to the roles he played. From television to film it was always an adventure for Buttons, with his role as a soft-spoken survivor in The Poseidon Adventure and small screen roles in The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Cosby Show, and Roseanne serving well to keep the amiable actor busy and in the public eye.
