In the 1990s, he made multiple guest appearances on ABC's "Roseanne" and NBC's "ER" and on such series as CBS' "Knots Landing," ABC's "Fantasy Island" and "The Love Boat" in the 1980s. On the film side, Buttons most recently appeared in 1999's "The Story of Us" and 2001's "Odessa or Bust."

In 1966 Buttons starred as an accountant recruited as a government spy in the television series The Double Life of Henry Phyfe. He ... appeared in series such as Knots Landing, Roseanne and latterly in ER, and performed on stage in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. In 1995, aged 76, he presented an autobiographical one-man show in New York, Buttons on Broadway.
