SHORT-TRACKING PART TWO –Penske Racing isn’t the only Toyota-powered entry to have success on the short tracks this season as Red Bull Cheever Racing has excelled on the short ovals as well. Patrick Carpentier has registered a pair of top-three podium finishes with thirds at Richmond and Nashville and a seventh at Milwaukee. In addition, Alex Barron, coming off a season-best fourth at Kentucky last week, placed sixth at Richmond and was running in the top-three late at Nashville.

Since the initial viral campaign, Red Bull's efforts have included sponsoring extreme sport events including cliff diving, BMX, skiing, flugtag and skateboarding. In the 1990s, Red Bull sponsored the rower Xeno Müller, who won an Olympic gold medal in the single sculls in 1996[7]. Today, Red Bull sponsors skier Tanner Hall, who won the X Games gold in half-pipe skiing. Red Bull ... sponsors the Red Bull Flugtag ("flight day" in German), a competition where entrants launch themselves off a 30-foot ramp in homemade "flying machines" into a body of water (reminiscent of the Birdman Rally); its own version of the soapbox derby called the Red Bull Soap Box Race; the Red Bull Art of the Can Competition, an international art competition in which artists are asked to create works using the Red Bull can; and the Red Bull BC One individual breakdance competition.

Speed’s chance to race in Europe came when his talent earned him a spot in the Red Bull program, and in 2003 he competed in the British Formula 3 series. Unfortunately, a long illness, eventually diagnosed as colitis, severely hampered his season. He lost 22 pounds before he began to recover. He bounced back strongly in 2004 in Formula Renault.
