After the Great Shutdown, Red Alert was one of the first Autobots resurrected by the new alliance of Ultra Magnus and Shockwave, and was chosen to lead the united Cybertronians alongside Shockwave and an Autobot High Council. The council proved incapable of adequately leading on their own, though, and began gradually giving more and more power to Shockwave over time, until their role was as little more than figureheads. Ultimately, it took the arrival of Optimus Prime and the Ark's crew to galvanize the Autobot forces of Cybertron into realizing just how badly they'd been had by the Decepticons. Red Alert and the council finally joined in the insurrection and helped bring down Shockwave's empire.

Red Alert is a valued doctor and science officer who has saved the lives of many Autobots. His quest to save lives has led him to find new ways to repair damaged circuitry. He has risked his life many times to retrieve wounded comrades during battles. An old friend of Optimus Prime, Red Alert was once a fierce and heroic fighter, until he was seriously wounded in battle and saw the preciousness of all life. But will this new battle reawaken his warrior's heart?

When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons, Red Alert joined the Autobot cause. Red Alert acted as an advisor to Optimus Prime when he became the new Autobot leader. After the Great Shutdown ended Red Alert was reformatted into an Earth-style car. During this period he became one of the Cybertronian high council, although power was really in the hands of Shockwave. Despite reservations by Perceptor about Shockwave's true motives, they dispatched Ultra Magnus to stop the Stunticons.

The Armada Red Alert toy's "WOO WOO WOO" sound effect has since become a famous in-joke within the Transformers fandom. For a short time, it ... became something of an impromptu chant among fans at Transformers conventions. Reportedly, at the start of the OTFCC 2003 Hasbro Panel, several fans started chanting "WOO WOO WOO WOO!" to the initial confusion of Hasbro designer Aaron Archer, until he realized what was occurring.

Red Alert was filmed in 1977 with William Devane play the role of Frank Brolen, Michael Brandon plays the role of Carl Wyche, and Adrienne Barbeau plays the role of Judy Wyche. In a small town in Minnesota sits a nuclear power plant that goes into meltdown follow by a sudden explosion. Enters Frank Brolen and Carl Wyche who must figure out what started the meltdown. Enters Henry Stone who's the plant manager and he's the by the book type. When employees start to die Stone orders the plant in lock down mode. Wyche calls his wife Judy and tells her to get out of town and fast.

Although named Red Alert in the U.S., this character is named First Aid in Japan, yet another homage to another Generation 1 Autobot ambulance. In Japan he is an original character, but in the U.S., the toy's identity follows the original plan of being the Armada character upgraded.
