Rebecca Rodriguez stood over the grave of her mother, Rosemary, on an overcast Friday afternoon. She was with her older sister Diana and their father, Bruce Daugherty. It had been 15 years since Daugherty had seen his ex-wife. Or his two daughters, for that matter.

Newly-named Vice President of Logistics, Ms. Rebecca Rodriguez-Llerena has literally grown up with Goya Foods. Ms. Rodriguez-Llerena, who has been with the company for over 35 years, began working for Goya during the summers and after school as a high school student growing up in Bergenfield, N.J. Her father, the late Israel (Lelo) Rodriguez enjoyed a stellar 37-year career at Goya Foods where he established the Traffic Department and served as its Vice President, until his retirement in 1982.

Diana told Rebecca that she was considering calling their paternal grandparents and asked her how she would feel about that. Rebecca immediately began to cry and told her that their father had never molested her; their mother had told Rebecca to say whatever she told her to. Rebecca was too young at the time to understand the implications of what her mother had told her to say. Upon hearing Rebecca’s confession, Diana’s decision to contact their father became final.
