Reasoning
built 288 days ago
Clinical Reasoning can be a conduit for the deconstruction and reconstruction of information storage and retrieval systems. This systematic approach allows for the redefining of the situational relevance of perceived information into a 'meaningful clinical picture' whereby correlation of information can be used to confirm or negate a 'reasoning hypothesis'.

Applied Reasoning personnel completed a database conversion project for a healthcare software provider. Applied Reasoning converted the customer's large database from an object-oriented database management system to an Oracle relational database system. A large portion of the project was focused on the development of a new transaction management and persistence management system, based on top of Object People's object-to-relational database mapping tool called TopLink. Applied Reasoning personnel performed extensive design work to the Oracle database system and tool development to help extract the domain object models for the existing code.

Reasoning, inference, and predictive models are used to discover patterns and associations and, then, to provide suggestions to the user. Transitive relationships in ontologies are often implicit. EXPRESSway's reasoning engine makes them explicit. All suggestions are supported by rules and rationales that can be viewed by the user and can be accepted or rejected. New perceptions and strategies emerge to clarify potential action in a knowledge management domain powered by EXPRESSway.

Applied Reasoning consultants have been involved with technical leadership of one of the largest distributed computing systems deployed in the telecommunications industry. Applied Reasoning consultants developed a new international telecommunication consortium developed architecture known as the Telecommunications Information Network Architecture (TINA). Applied Reasoning personnel were instrumental in assisting the customer in the development of the telecommunications management and technology approach, as well as the formulation of a systems plan for the migration of back-office systems to new technologies. The core component of the provisioning system is now web-enabled using Classic Blend.

Abductive reasoning, or argument to the best explanation often involves both inductive and deductive arguments. However, as the conclusion in an abductive argument does not follow with certainty from its premises it is best thought of as a form of inductive reasoning. What separates abduction from the other forms of reasoning is an attempt to favor one conclusion above others, by attempting to falsify alternative explanations or by demonstrating the likelihood of the favored conclusion, given a set of more or less disputable assumptions.

Dispatchers are a special type of reasoners that do not perform any reasoning themselves, but route goals to other reasoners. The task of a dispatcher is to choose among its child reasoners those that should handle a particular goal.
