ANDRE Bikey, the Reading defender who missed today's Africa Cup of Nations final because of a one-match suspension, stayed on in Ghana to watch his Cameroon team-mates edged out 1-0 by Egypt. And Bikey, who had played every game up until then, walked up with the rest of the squad to collect a silver medal. It was a well-deserved reward for him after being unfairly slaughtered by the media - and BBC TV's commentators and pundits in particular - for what, to those who cared to think it through, was an understandable rush of blood when he was sent off in the semi-final.

The Seminole County study is of particular importance because it acts as a precursor to the much-anticipated federal Striving Readers research on adolescent reading intervention that is expected to be released by the United States Department of Education in 2008. The FCRR study is similar in design and structure to the Striving Readers research and provides preliminary evidence supporting adolescent literacy intervention.
