* In October of 2004, Ray Charles' life became the subject of the critically-acclaimed biographical film Ray . Although Charles died before the film's release, he was actively involved in its production. He met the actor who would portray him, Jamie Foxx, before production began. Foxx is himself a pianist, and the two jammed together for hours. When they finally finished, Ray Charles stood up and declared, "he's the one, he can do it."
Wanting artistic control over his music, Ray Charles moved to ABC records and performed an enchanting America the Beautiful. In his latter career, Charles saw the advantages of hopping onto the pop music arena and from thereon became internationally known for his appearances in both TV and film. A biography of Ray Charles referred to as a biopic was released in 2004. Actor Jamie Foxx depicts Ray Charles’ remarkable life and career. His portrayal won him an Academy Award for his role.

The concert is being held to support "Ray," the new feature film about Ray Charles starring Jamie Foxx, which is set for release September 29th. The family says the icon was thrilled with Foxx's portrayal of him, and Foxx was equally happy to play the part, insisting, "It was the greatest role in the world; he was the greatest man ever."
