Rats are various medium sized rodents. "True rats" are members of the genus Rattus, the most important of which to humans are the black rat, Rattus rattus, and the brown rat, R. norvegicus. Many members of other rodent genera and families are ... called rats and share many characteristics with true rats. A rat has an average life span of 2-3 years[1].

Rats can reproduce young four to six times a year having litters of four to ten. Once they have reached the age of three to six months, they have the ability of reproducing. One female can wean about twenty young a year. Life expectancy for a rat is about nine months.

Murids (Muridae), the family that gave rise to present-day Norway rats, house mice, hamsters, voles, and gerbils, first appeared during the late Eocene (around 34 million years ago). Modern murids had evolved by the Miocene (23.8-5 mya) and radiated during the Pliocene (5.3-1.8 mya) (for more, see Introduction to the Rodentia).

DEAD RATS is a young, loud and snotty streetpunkband from SNC, Belgium. It all started when Johnny and Sammy were dropped in the same class in 2002. Together with their true friends and original members of the SNC PUNX sticky stef, punkrock jimmy and silent R, they shared the same taste of music. They started picking up instruments and focussed on learning the skills. The only goal they had back then was bringing punk back to their town by starting a band and organising some shows. Johnny knew how to play the guitar, Sammy was playing the bass for Turn the Screw and Johnnys little dreadlocked brother played the drums for some years.

New Bern, NC--The Spartanburg Stingers cooled off the hot River Rats 3-1 Tuesday night, ending New Bern's three game winning streak and sparing bat boy Jake Caccavaro from shaving his head. Caccavaro told the team earlier in the year that he would shave his shaggy red hair if the team won four straight. The River Rats have won five of their last seven games, and will begin a three-game roadtrip aainst Columbia, Florence, and Asheboro Wednesday night.
