The formula for ratings based on 8 or fewer games is called the ``special'' rating formula, and the other is called the ``standard'' formula. A provisional rating is updated using the special formula if the number of completed games is 8 or fewer, and the standard formula if the number is greater than 8. Established ratings are based on the standard formula.

A team's Offense power rating essentially measures the ability to score points. This does not distinguish how points are scored, so good defensive play that leads to scoring will be reflected in the Offense rating. In general, the offensive rating can be interpretted as the number of points a team would be expected to score against an average defense.

The table shows the seller’s average rating for each criteria, and the number of ratings they’ve received. Average ratings are computed on a rolling 12-month basis and will only appear when at least ten ratings have been received.

In general, physical and elemental damage is reduced by the target's armor rating. While the majority of damage falls under this category, a number of skills, especially under the Mesmer, Necromancer, and Monk lines deal damage that ignores armor.
